Morning Modelbuch (10/3/2018)
Since most people I know celebrate the entire month of October for Halloween, I thought I’d share some seasonal images. Momento Mori prints were popular and they found their way into emblem books. Emblem books were common design inspiration for embroiderers and other craftspeople. These are from George Wither’s 1635 _A collection of emblemes, ancient and moderne : quickened vvith metricall illustrations, both morall and divine : and disposed into lotteries_ but the engravings were actually done about 1601 by Crispin van Passe (yes, the same engraver who did many of Peter Stent’s prints.)
