A lovely veil edged in what looks like bobbin lace layered under a second larger black veil in this Spanish portrait of a lady by Baltasar de Echave Orio. Dated around the first quarter of the 17th century, it is held at the Museo de Nacional de Arte in Mexico City. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/wd/pwFUUMOLX0VesA

Similar patterns appear in Isabella Catanea Parasole’s _Fiore D’Ogni Virtu Per le Nobili Et Honeste Matrone_. The Met’s 1610 copy has what they refer to as “Spanish Arms” at the front and back of the book. I’m intrigued by that and want to look into it a bit further. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/355096
