If you are going to look at embroidery in paintings, there really isn’t any painter better to look at than Hans Holbein (although I’d argue Bronzino and Allori are right there with him.) Portrait of Simon George dated 1535-40. Inventory number 1065 at the Staedel Museum. The portrait is well worth a look at the museum’s site, with a gigantic downloadable image and a short video. No exact matches I can locate in a book this morning, so Im just enjoying the painting.
