It’s been awhile since I got any modelbuch mail, but I recently bought a copy of the 1910 facsimile reprint of Giovanni Andrea Vavassore’s “Opera Nuova Universals Intitolata Corona do Ricami.” I know I’ll never have the resources to collect original copies of the pattern books, but the late 19th century and early 20th century reprints from publishers like Ongania and Wasmuth are special in their own way.
This book is part of the 5 book series published by Istituti Italiano d’Arti Grafiche: Serie 1: Merletti E Ricami with introductions by Elisa Ricci. Book one is Vinciolo’s “I Singolari E Nuovi Disegni per Lavori do Biancheria.” Book two is Ostaus’ “La Vers Perfezionr del Disegni per Punto e Ricami.” Book three is Paganini’s “Il Buratto.” The one I just got is book 4, Vavassore’s “Opera Nova Universals Intitolata Corona do Ricami.” I still need to locate a copy of book 5, Vavassore’s “Esemplarii di Lavori, che Insegns alle Donne il Modo e L’ordine di Lavorare.”
