Spot sample dated either around 1620 or 1640. The maker is unidentified, but thought to be either Mary or Margaret Chichester. Embroidered in Devonshire England. The sampler was included in the Fitzwilliam Museum’s exhibition, “Sampled Lives” which ran in 2018. Pattern from the 1544 _Eyn new kuenstich moedelbuech_ by Peter Quentel. (Lotz #17) I always forget just how much I enjoy this book. I need to see if I can find more reasons to highlight it as some of the patterns are both unique and beautiful. http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1510823d
Also, apropos of nothing, one of the spot patterns very much reminds me of pumpkins and I may need to stitch it on some seasonal napkins.
