Morning Modelbuch (6/8/2020)
Looking at the different versions of the pattern books is fun as you can compare the different pages that survived in each copy. It is also really interesting to see the artifacts from their owners. One of the BNF’s copies of Belin’s _S’ensuyvent les Patrons de messire Antoine Belin_, originally published in 1533, has some wonderful variations of the charted patterns drawn up on blank pages. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b10548017k/f1.item
We can see the graphic impact of similar patterns in a pair of 16th century Spanish knitted gloves. Accession number 38.1252a-b at the MFA. https://collections.mfa.org/objects/46527
