For the third day of Christmas, I pulled some of the patterns that focus on the games and sports that were part of the misrule of the Christmas season in the 16th century. I can’t imagine I would ever have a use for the bear hunting pattern, but I’ve already used the Fool, and the hobby horse riders may find their way onto something eventually.

Fool from Christian Egenolff’s 1535 _Modelbuch aller Art Nehens vn Stickens_ https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/681514

Bear and playing with hoops patterns from _La Vera Perfettione del Disegno di varie sorti di recami_ by Giovanni Ostaus, originally published in 1557. http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b10548040p

Hobby horses from Nicolas Bassee’s 1571 _New Modelbuch von allerhandt Art nehens und stickens_. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1510829w
