Morning Modelbuch (9/13/2019)
Today’s artifact is this incredible set of chasuble, maniple, stole, and chalice veil. The set was assembled from at least 12 different pieces of lace. The lace is 17th century, but exactly when it was put into this form is difficult to determine. It belonged to the Priuli family from Venice until 1907 and was purchased by the Met in 1910. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/218985
The lace patterns fall into the style introduced by Bartolomeo Danieli. The link is to a page from Lotz 148, dated 1630. _Libro di diversi disegni per colari, punti per fazzoletti, & reticelle di varie sorti_ is the earliest of the four books by Danieli on Arthur Lotz’ list. I’ve only seen pictures of the first two, I haven’t turned up copies of the other two yet. http://calcografica.ing.beniculturali.it/index.php?page=default&id=6&lang=en&item_id=87125&schemaType=S&schemaVersion=2.00
