Morning Modelbuch (8/28/2019)
I do historical reenactment and sewing, so I really love seeing modern projects using historical information. I’ve been looking at the Corbet Bed Project, where local embroiderers decided to create a set of bed hangings appropriate to a bed dated 1593 on loan from the V&A to the Shropshire Museum. Volunteers embroidered slips to be appliqued on velvet for hangings, a valance, and a bed spread in the style of the late 16th century. Starting in 1997, the project took 13 years and involved about 200 embroiderers. What a cool project! http://www.darwincountry.org/category.php3?trail=2905 https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2010/03/07/lord-lieutenant-marks-end-of-bed-project/
The slips are in a similar style to those found in _A Book of Slips of Fruit_ Engravings by John Dunstall, published by John Overton in 1666. Also published by Peter Stent. Registration number 2AA+,a.67.107 in the British Museum. https://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?objectId=3261816&partId=1&searchText=Book+of+slips+of+fruit&page=1 https://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?searchText=Bookofslipsoffruit&ILINK|34484,|assetId=997859001&objectId=3261808&partId=1
