Morning Modelbuch (7/15/2019)
As I’ve said more than once, I love mermaid patterns. The mermaids on this 16th century Sicilian cover at the Met (accession number 10.95.2) are a better match for a pattern in Bernard Jobin, but I’ve shared that one a couple of times already, so I’m linking a couple of patterns in Jean Treveon’s _Patrons de diverses manieres inventez_. The link is to a 1545 copy of a book originally published in 1533.
Look at the birds in the border as well as the lovely bobbin lace edging. I’m also really interested by the dragons in the center motif that don’t have modelbuch matches. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8622055p/f22.image
