I mention Arthur Lotz quite frequently. His _Bibliographie der modelbucher. beschreibendes verzeichnis der stick- und spitzenmusterbucher des 16. und 17. jahrhunderts_ published in 1933 with a second edition in 1963, is the standard reference work for modelbucher. As the books tend to have long full page titles, sometimes are identified by publisher, and other times by engraver, and some plates and blocks are reused over and over it is a nice way of specifying which book is actually being discussed. While Lotz has the most complete list, there are books he didnt know about and books he didn’t include. There are also alternative lists with fewer books on them and different numbering systems. As these are great research tools I wanted to make certain people were aware of them. One of the earliest is 1902’s “Early Pattern-Books of Lace Embroidery, and Needlework” Edward F. Strange. In a frustrating turn of events, when I went to check that the link I had was still good, the article is no longer available online, but can be obtained from most libraries. I really wish I had saved the pdf last year. Guess I will be ordering a copy. . https://academic.oup.com/library/article-abstract/TBS-7/1/209/945482
