Morning Modelbuch (2/23/2018)
A friend of mine pointed out this gorgeous Bartolomeo Venuto portrait of Lodovico Martinengo at the UK’s National Gallery. The red at cuffs and collar with peeks of gold along the edges is really wonderful. It has sort of a blackwork look as well as the feel of geometric whitework patterns we see done on satin stitch showing up in the collar, but with the addition of gold. And look at the matching band string. https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/bartolomeo-veneto-lodovico-martinengo
The cuffs are pretty close to the branching blackwork patterns in Peter Quentel _Eyn New Kunstlichboich_ (these pictures are from the 1529, but the designs are also in Schonesperger’s earlier book.) https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/354657
