Morning Modelbuch (2/4/2019)

I’m looking at various versions of a portrait of Cosimo I Medici from 1560. These 3 all have the same embroidered collar and I want to look at them today. There are some other derivative portraits where the embroidery is changed and I’ll link those tomorrow. The beautifully rendered voided embroidery/Assisi work is just lovely and not a men’s collar treatment I remember seeing much. The pattern matches up nicely with a scrolling floral border in Hermann Gullferich’s 1553 _Modelbuch New Aller Art Nehens and Stickens_ https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/684553 Portrait of Cosimo I de Medici by Allori https://www.simondickinson.com/artwork/portrait-of-cosimo-i-de-medici/ By Bronzino in the Kunsthistorisches Museum https://www.khm.at/objektdb/detail/2510/?offset=1&lv=list Smaller version by Allori at the Kunsthistorisches Museum https://www.khm.at/objektdb/detail/42/?offset=2&lv=list
