Morning Modelbuch (1/27/2018)
Okay, this isn’t actually a modelbuch, it is a collection of patterns taken from extant pieces in the Lipperheide collection. What I’m fascinated by is that in addition to several of the patterns from modelbucher turning up, which makes sense, there are several patterns that turn up in other artifacts. For example, here is “Portrait of a Roman Woman” by Dosso Dossi that matches a Lipperheide pattern. Perhaps they were in some of the patterns printed as individual sheets. Maybe they’re from books that didn’t survive or pages that didn’t survive from existing books. _Muster altitalienischer Leinenstickrei_ by Frieda and Franz Lipperheide published in 1881 https://library.si.edu/digital-library/book/musteraltitalien00lipp https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_of_a_Woman_(Dosso_Dossi)#/media/FileDosso_Dossi_013.JPG
