Morning Modelbuch (1/20/2019)
This “mat” at the Met, has a fun heart pattern that is unusual because it’s a square, but the design isn’t symmetrical. There are frequent hearts in lace, but this one is used in a place where you would expect something with more radial symmetry. There’s a similar pattern in _Pretiosa gemma delle virtuose donne: Doue si vedono bellissimi lauori di punto in aria, reticella, di maglia_ by Elizabetta Catanea Parasole in 1600. The link is the 1879 republication by Ongania.
