The mix and match of old and new patterns in the lace used for this shirt in the MFA is wonderful. The one centered at the front neckline is one of the oldest. It shows up in Schonsperger’s first book, is reprinted over and over and is far older than that. Right next to it are reticella style patterns like those in Vecellio. Then there are two more in the arm, an additional pattern worked in the seams, and an edging along the whole neckline.
