I don’t really know all that much about 17th century clothing since I’ve focused primarily on the 16th century. The swathes of lace are gorgeous and a bit overwhelming in their ostention and the whole impression is over the top. I was struck by the thick goldwork on the bodice in this Portrait of a Young Woman dated 1632 by Nicolaes Eliasz Pickenoy and really attracted to the scrolling beasts center front. https://www.getty.edu/art/collection/object/103R9B
Those types of ornament are certainly evident in Bretschneider and the other late books, but I thought I’d share a couple of mirroring monsters from _Nova esposizione de recami et dessegni_ published by Giacomo Antonio Somascho. Held by Vatican Library, shelfmark: I.149. https://digi.vatlib.it/view/GDS_Stampe.I.149
