We haven’t done a modern method book in awhile. As the pattern books themselves don’t have how-to instructions, I think these help with using them. Granted, the historic processes don’t always match up with modern tutorials, but they give the beginner a place to start.
As so many of the German shirts involve smocking, I thought this one was fun. “Smocking, fancy stitches, and cross stitch and darned net designs : Butterick Publishing Company” dated 1895.
