I’ve been fascinated by the embroidered jackets of the early 17th century since I first watched the progress of the Plimoth Jacket in 2007. https://youtu.be/R9LzE3jdCTw It was a gateway to the work of Tricia Nguyen and Thistle Threads and has resulted in the pile of silk and design drawings that are my never ending/ not really yet begun embroidered 17th century style casket. Periodically I’ll pull out all the reproduction threads and pet them. I also still stare far too much at the jackets.
English Woman’s waistcoat, coif, and forehead cloth in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Dated 1610-1615. Accession numbers 43.243 and 43.244a-b https://collections.mfa.org/objects/116779/womans-jacket https://collections.mfa.org/objects/503471/womans-coif-and-forehead-cloth
There are different laces at neck, bottom of the jacket, and along the edge of the couf, but the bobbin lace patterns similar to those in Le Pompe, are still being used. They work especially well with the metal threads and spangles used here.
Le Pompe by the Sessa brothers. The BNF copy has both books. I have selected images from only the first (Lotz 95 & 100) dated 1557 and 1560 https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8622058x/f1.image
