I like the mirroring between the functional smocking on this shirt and the additional embroidered band in Portrait of a Man Gesticulating with His Right Hand by Jan van Scorel. On view at Christ Church, University of Oxford, accession number JBS 236. It is highly unlikely that the maker of the shirt followed a pattern from the books, but I think it is a great view of how the books didn’t necessarily innovate with their patterns, but recorded patterns already in use. The extra figure 8 included between the diamonds with their X’s also has a bit of additional flair. https://artuk.org/discover/artworks/portrait-of-a-man-gesticulating-with-his-right-hand-229217

I’ve linked to Peter Quentel 1536 “Ein new kunstlich modelbuch” (Lotz 16) because of its additive nature. The previous patterns are collected with never ones to make the biggest and best, new and improved edition. http://daten.digitale-sammlungen.de/~db/0008/bsb00083044/images/
