Morning Modelbuch (2/20/2020)

As I’ve said before, I am a slow stitcher. To be truthful; I am a messy, disorganized, uncoordinated, and slow stitcher. But I adore embroidery anyway. Applique always seems so much more approachable to me than other techniques, with less interior stitching, so I love it and am always happy to find historical examples. These appliqued panels of velvet on wool, stitched with silk are at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Museum number 626-1898, French, dated between 1550-1599. https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O363882/pair-of-panels/

The examples of patterns for iris and carnations are pulled from Rosina Furst’s _Model Buch : T.1-4_ published by Paul Furst beginning in 1660. Several vases of flowers are also from Furst. We do see similar naturalistic vases as early as Vavassore in the 1530’s however, and it is a frequent motif in borders. Furst https://archive.org/details/modelbucht1400frst/
