Morning Modelbuch (2/7/2020)

I ended up over at the U. Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art’s site and was floored by the fantastic goldwork and applique on this 17th century Torah mantle from Mantua. The close up photo is worth staring at a good long while and the site lets you zoom in really close. http://ijamuseum.org/torah-mantle-mantua-italy-17th-century/

The style in _Il Monte libro secundo_ by Giovanni Antonio Bindoni has a lot in common with earlier moresque ornament, but it is thicker and less thin line (book 1 also has the same look.) I think that makes it perfect for applique and adding interior embellishment. Lotz #99, dated 1560. Copy at the Osterreichischen Nationalbibliothek. http://data.onb.ac.at/rec/AC11211062
