It’s been mentioned releatedly that many of the embroidery patterns in the books are much older and turn up in Coptic textiles. I have tried to resist taking my research towards that direction since I don’t have a good grounding in the general history of that time and place and its clothing. Sometimes I can’t help it, however, and try to find out more. In the process, I found this nice exploration of stitches written by Louisa Pesel in 1918. _Stitches From Eastern Embroideries_. https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.206572/page/n1
