My 4th day of Christmas is both frustration and opportunity. I got a book I hadn’t seen before that has some great info on Tagliente’s 1527 _Essampio di recammi_. Published in 1968 in a limited edition of 400, Stanley Morison’s _Splendour of Ornament: Specimens selected from the Essempio di recammi, the first Italian manual of decoration, Venice 1524 by Giovanni Antonio Tagliente_ has a lot of the information that I spent several months tracking down and drawing conclusions from other sources to arrive at. It’s all pulled into 72 pages, with a woven cover of silk.
I’m frustrated that the time I spent thinking I was doing original research seems to be wasted, but it is giving me other avenues to explore. The cleaned up ornament printed in a variety of colors is exciting to see. It is going on my shelves next to my Ongania 1878 reprint of Tagliente. I thought I would show a few patterns from both.
