Morning Modelbuch (10/30/2019)

Portrait of Lucrezia Borgia by Dossi Dosso dated around 1520 in the National Gallery Victoria, accession Number 1587-5 https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/work/3746/

The whitework pattern of the collar is interesting. I pulled a couple of patterns that are reminiscent of some of the loose knotwork patterns that we know were being printed as individual sheets before the books because the portrait reminded me of that style. Pattern from _Convivio delle Belle Donne_ 1532 by Niccolo Zoppino https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/347839

And, because I thought it interesting, here’s a link to a 2008 article from the museum explaining the attribution of the painting, making it the only formal portrait of Lucrezia Borgia painted from life. https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/media_release/ngv-solves-mystery-of-renaissance-portrait/
