Morning Modelbuch (9/17/2019)
Late 16th century or early 17th century border in the Met. It’s a really beautiful combo of cutwork and needlelace with multiple techniques. I really enjoy how the artist has embellished and added lace fills into the outline of a floral pattern. ( Its bedtime here as I’m looking at it, which may explain why I really want the figure in the flower to be Thumbellina.) https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/197359
Floral pattern in Johann Siebmacher’s _Newes Modelbuch in Kupffer_. The link is to a 1604 version of a book originally published in 1601. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/357206
