Morning Modelbuch (8/4/2019)
Looking at lace with heraldic motifs and grotesque style patterns, and synchronicity hit. Several of my friends shared a blog post from The Met which had a lovely color photograph of a 17th century Italian baptismal veil. Accession Number: 33.90.4. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/222697
What it really reminds me of is many of the title pages from the pattern books with elaborate cartouche set up for inscriptions, but there are also quite a few grotesque style patterns in Iseppo Foresto’s 1564 _Splendore delle virtuose giovani_. There are also bears that remind me of the Passarotti patterns , a mermaid that looks similar to one in Vecellio, loads of gorgeous leaves, and then gold bobbin lace. I’m sure it’s breathtaking in person. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/349915
