Morning Modelbuch (7/13/2019)

I pointed this pattern from the Sessa brothers 1564 _I Frutti_ out a couple of weeks ago as a sort of match.

As I have mentioned before, historians can’t use these patterns as a way to date textiles because many patterns come from older sources (like the various Arabic textiles that are often mentioned by many of you) and then continue to be used long after. How pattern transmission works is really fascinating and often a total mystery. Here is the pattern (as well as the bird and tree we see from Quentel on) in an 18th century embroidery from the Greek islands that is part of the Met’s collection.. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1518504h/f18.image
