Morning Modelbuch (6/23/2019)
I’m in a unicorn mood, so thought I would share this filet net piece held at the Hermitage. Valence embroidered with a Unicorn Motif, Spain or Italy, late 16th-early 17th century. Inventory number ?-6391.
The center unicorns match up well with a design in Peter Quentel’s 1532 _Eyn Newe kunstlich moetdelboech alle kunst_ I especially like that the Quentel design is not a gridded out filet pattern, but has a lot in common with the valence. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/355820 https://www.hermitagemuseum.org/wps/portal/hermitage/digital-collection/11.textilestapestry/279897/
