Morning Modelbuch (6/5/2019)

This lovely double portrait was auctioned by the Dorotheum in 2012. I included links to the auction and to Wikipedia, which has higher definition pictures. Dated around 1570, it was sold as Venetian school and has been attributed to either Veronese or Montemezzano. There are several portraits with dresses in the Venetian V open style that seem to have a lace stomacher under the lacing painted by both Veronese and Montemezzano.

The beautifully scrolling heart design with pomegranates is not an exact match, but there are similar ones with grapes and acorns in Bindoni’s _ Il Monte. Libro Secundo_ I’ve also thrown in a pomegranate pattern from Il Monte book 1.

_Il monte. Libro secundo_ by Giovanni Antonio di Bernardino Bindoni, dated 1560. Lotz #99. http://data.onb.ac.at/rec/AC11211062
