I feel a little sheepish that I’ve never shared “Fashion and Virtue: Textile Patterns and the Print Revolution 1520-1620.” It was an exhibition put on by The Met in 2015 featuring their pattern book collection as well as many of the textiles that match up. So, it is basically exactly what happens here.
There was not an exhibition catalog put out, but the information was covered in the Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin v. 73. No. 2 by Femke Speelberg. As it is now out of print, the Met offers it to read online or download as pdf https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Fashion_and_Virtue_Textile_Patterns_and_the_Print_Revolution_1520_1620
I point people to this every time I teach in person, since I hold onto my hard copy pretty tightly. It is not to be missed. And since it is free, it’s hard to beat the price.
