Morning Modelbuch (6/4/2019)

This is an interesting type of needle lace made of human and horse hair. Not many pieces survive because of their fragile nature. I ran across a mention of the Lennox Tresse, a piece of lace belonging to Mary Queen of Scots, worked by the Countess Lennox from her own white hair, a few years ago and always wondered what it might look like.

The V&A has two pieces, worked in brown hair. They are thought to be intended to be worn or carried as sentimental tokens. Here’s one of the pieces with deer, dogs, and flowers. Hair lace dated between 1640-80 accession # T.150-1963 http://m.vam.ac.uk/item/O10701/band-of-lace-unknown/

There are many hart and hound patterns in the books, but I don’t think I’ve shared this particular one before. It is from Vinciolo’s _Les Singuliers et nouveaux pourtraicts du seigneur Federic de Vinciolo_. This is a 1589 copy (Lotz # 111) published by Eleazaro Thomysi. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1510847t.image
