Morning Modelbuch (5/30/2019)

Apron. It’s just jaw dropping. Wow. That is pretty much all I have to say. 1611-12 from the Workshop of Frans Pourbus the younger, Portrait of “Monsieur” Gaston, duc d’Anjou, later the duc d’Orleans as a child. Collection Cliveden Estate, Buckinghamshire. Reference number NT 766120 http://www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/766120

I’ve included designs from _La Pratique de l’Aiguille_ published in 1605 by Matthias Mignerak because of its dedication to Marie de Medici and the resulting inclusion of French heraldic lacis designs similar to those in the bib of the apron. Mignerak’s book also has a large number of floral lacis designs as well as some bobbin lace designs so it has a mix of laces just as the portrait does. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/354009
