Morning Modelbuch (5/25/2019)
I though we would look at a pair of different pieces of 16th century Italian lace. The piece at the Met (accession #30.135.137) is a little less than two yards of edging. The second piece, at the National Gallery of Victoria (accession #895-D5) is a cover with the fleur patterned lace at its center.
The fleur motif is common and there’s a bobbin lace pattern in Parasole, but the two pieces are exact. It has to be somewhere, I just haven’t run across it. In the meantime, here’s the Parasole: _Pretiosa Gemma delle virtuose donne_ published in 1600 https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/355098 https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/222455 https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/work/44379/
