Today’s research book from the public domain is 1908’s, _ Seven Centuries of Lace_. The book is a look at Margaret Pollen’s collection of lace. Her intention is to give ” practical information I have most desired, that is to say full-sized representations of the pieces of lace.” She’s not interested in the design books, because design isn’t part of her focus, but there are still some intriguing things to be gathered from her book. I’ve included some of my favorite pieces.
There is a glossary, a list of plates, and lovely photographs of her collection. Archive has 3 copies. The link is Wellesley College’s copy. The plates start about page 78. https://archive.org/details/sevencenturiesof00poll/
