I’m rather entranced by this lace alphabet done on a mid-17th century sampler. Museum number 269-1898 in the Victoria and Albert Museum http://m.vam.ac.uk/item/O70143/sampler-unknown/

It matches up, in concept at least, with one in Matteo Pagano’s _Giardineto novo di punti tagliati et gropposi per exercitio et ornamento delle donne_, first published at least 100 years earlier than the sampler, in the 1540’s https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k132447q/f10.image
