Morning Modelbuch (3/24/2019)

I’ve been preparing all week to host an event, and cooked a lot of food, make candy, and taught several classes. It was a lot of fun, but I’m afraid I didn’t have much research time today. Therefore, I’m just going to mention a book I probably wouldn’t otherwise talk about much.

It is a lovely late 16th century set of 3 books by Maria Sibylla Merian _Blumenbuch_. Published in the 1670’s, they are considered to be embroidery pattern books, but they truly are more botanical illustrations. The books she published after these, one on caterpillars and a second with illustrations of the insects of Suriname, are more usually classified as natural history.

As it is the beginning of spring in my part of the world, here are some gorgeous daffodils and some other pages from the 3rd section that caught me eye. Wouldn’t they be a lovely needle painting project ?
