Morning Modelbuch (2/21/2019)
Not the fine, exacting embroidery stitches as painted by some, but the collar in Nicole dell’Abate’s “Portrait of a Young Man with a Cleft Chin” dated between 1535-45 seems to bear some resemblance to a pattern in Peter Quentel’s_Ein New Kunstlich Modelbuch_. The painting is in the Royal Collection https://www.rct.uk/collection/402755/portrait-of-a-young-man-with-a-cleft-chin The first edition of this version of Quentel came out 1541, with the same plates in a different order as the second edition published in 1544 that is the one linked. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/354658
