Just as an FYI about reading critically and looking at primary sources for yourself rather than just quoting a source. (And because I found it hilarious.) N.H. Moore’s 1937 book, _The Lace Book_ has the following to say, ” The earliest dated pattern book is of 1527 and contains patterns only. It was published at Cologne by O. Foelix.” You can find this information cut and pasted as the history of lace in a variety of places. So let’s break it down. Schonesperger was well earlier than this with his 1524 book, but the first book didnt have a date, so we will give that the benefit of the doubt. So who the heck is O. Foelix? He’s not a publisher we see. Well, here’s the funny part. I guess the author looked at the back of the title page of the book and found the image below. It’s the city heraldry of Cologne. With the motto O Foelix Colonia (Oh happy Cologne.) This isn’t the publisher, just Peter Quentel (who is the publisher) including where he was publishing. https://metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/681424 https://books.google.com/books?id=vIgNAwAAQBAJ&pg=RA3-PA52&lpg=RA3-PA52&dq=o.+foelix+1527&source=bl&ots=JCku9uBAHg&sig=ACfU3U2C85AliVanlKxCFYExwYpkU2lBMg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwje58KugcbgAhXvj4MKHf7HCK8Q6AEwDXoECAYQAQ#v=onepage&q=o.foelix1527&f=false
