Morning Modelbuch (1/2/2019)
Haven’t looked at Francesco di Pellegrini’s moresque designs in awhile. These, Flotner’s, Geminius, and de Cerceau are actually some of my favorites since they work so well across multiple art forms. Published in 1530, _Fleur de la science de pourtraicture Et patrons de broderie. facon arabicque et ytalique_ is available at the BNF https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k857536m/f15.image
This portrait of a woman and her cat is attributed to Ambrosius Benson with dates given between 1540 and 1550. The swirling moresque patterns on her collar match up pretty well to several in Pellegrin. (I didn’t go hunting long enough to see if there was an exact match.) The painting sold at Christie’s but Wikipedia has a picture available. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ambrosius_Benson_-_Portrait_of_a_Woman_with_Cat.jpg
