Morning Modelbuch (12/8/2018)
One of those lovely moments when we can see modelbucher as transmitters of earlier designs. This fragment in the Cooper Hewitt is from fifteenth century Italy with a design much older. The peacocks and eagle are basically ageless and very Byzantine. The textile is double running stitch on cotton. Vavassore has a similar pattern with both birds in Esemplario di Lauori published in 1532. https://collection.cooperhewitt.org/objects/18370535/ https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/358317
