Morning Modelbuch (12/6/2018)

Folks, someone was actually crazy enough to do the 4 Seasons lace pattern from Vecellio! I know I’ve posted this pattern previously, but I just ran across a 20th century Italian example of it worked in needlelace at the MFA. https://www.mfa.org/collections/object/needlepoint-lace-panel-90153

I know absolutely nothing about the piece. It’s a gift of Charlotte R. Stillman, which isn’t that helpful as she was a large donor in the 1920’s. She sat on the Board of Trustees at the Met and her sister and brother-in-law were well known for philanthropy. I’m not certain if her donations were personally collected items or not, so narrowing the story of the piece is going to take more time.

The pattern is from THE most widespread modelbuch published in the most editions, Cesare Vecellio’s _Corona Delle Nobili et Virtuose Donne._ https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b105480342.r=Vecellio?rk=150215;2
