Morning Modelbuch (12/4/2018)

This is a bit different because it isn’t a contemporary use of a modelbuch pattern, but it isn’t quite a current take either. It should come as no surprise that it was donated by one of the amazing members of The Needle and Bobbin Club, Mrs. Dewitt Clinton Cohen. The members just keep popping up when it comes to museum collections connected to modelbucher. This evening bag was a gift in 1943. The Met doesn’t limit the date any further than 1700-1943. I would totally carry an evening bag of silk with metal embroidery like this to a special occasion. I adore the updated use. Wish I knew more about it and whether it was something she collected or had made. Her textile collection is spread out between The Met, The Cooper Hewitt, and the MFA in Boston. Several books and a Needle and Bobbin Club Bulletin show off some of her bobbin collection including interesting glass bobbins from Mirano
