An interesting window on market forces and how they influence what gets created. Giovanni Vavassore’s first modelbuch Opera Nova Universali intitulata Corona di racammi was mostly original designs. He did the designs with little dots in the mesh rather than filled squares. It’s not that easy to see. There was only one edition published in the 1530’s. His next book of patterns mentions it in the preface. It is also many of the same patterns published by others and it has dark filled in squares. That book had at least a dozen editions.
