Morning Modelbuch (7/6/2018)

This pattern reminds me of some of the 16th century embroidered bookbindings I’ve seen. It’s from Matheo Pagano’s 1558 _La Gloria et la Honore le Pointe Tagliate_ from the 1884 Quaritch reprint. https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=gri.ark:/13960/t9v15ng3v;view=1up;seq=9;skin=mobile

The bookbinding example is a 1664 extant piece held here http://special.lib.gla.ac.uk/exhibns/bindings/dki17.html but there are dozens of examples including one Elizabeth I embroidered as a child.

If you’re interested in the subject, the British Library has a basic article, and here’s a book on the subject https://archive.org/details/englishbookbindings00davenuoft
