Morning Modelbuch (7/5/2018)
In addition to the lace books, two other types of books were often used as patterns for embroidery: books of animals like Gessners and a series of books of emblems. The first emblem book was published in 1531 by Alciato so they were pretty much synchronous with the modelbuchlein. I’m currently working through Aneau’s 1552 _Picta Poesis_ and fell in love with this ouroboros snake and rose. https://archive.org/details/pictapoesisutpic00anea
