Morning Modelbuch (6/21/2018)
Translating pattern to piece can be a bit daunting, so finding examples of patterns worked up into surviving objects is always fun. Especially when they are done in different mediums. Giovanni Vavassore’s _Esemplario di Lauori_ first published in 1530 has a band with the word Liberta. The Met has a drawnwork version and another done in red silk. I’ve also included Portrait of a Lady with Apple, dated 1539. While it isn’t the exact pattern, the decoration on her belt and brustfleck is a similar style with motto swirling around vegetation and I think it’s an interesting idea for use if a pattern.
