Morning Modelbuch (5/21/2018)

Yeah. Um. Huh. Fox with the head of a courtesan. I thought this was possibly a printers mark (sort of a logo) but the composition of the page is wrong for that. It gave me an excuse to go digging for the answer though and read more about 16th century printers marks and identified the second image as the correct one for Matheo Pagano. Both are from _La Gloria et L’Honore di Ponte Tagliate_ https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/660581?sortBy=Relevance&ft=Pagano&offset=160&rpp=20&pos=164

I’m no closer to an answer, but still super intrigued. If you’re interested in the subject too you can start at the New York Public Library https://www.nypl.org/blog/2014/09/08/rare-book-printers-marks or W. Robert’s book _Sixteenth Century Printers Marks: A chapter in the History of Typography_ https://archive.org/stream/printersmarkscha00robeiala/printersmarkscha00robeiala_djvu.txt
