Morning Modelbuch (4/22/2018)

I'm a sucker for mermaid patterns. Conveniently for me there are lots of them in the modelbuchlein. Sea hybrids were actually a hugely popular motif in lots of art (yes, I'm still reading and enjoying my copy of The Mermaids of Venice.)
This one is from Antoine Belin's _S'ensuyvent led patrones de Messire Antoine Belin_ published by Pierre de Sainte-Lucie in 1545.

There was a big interest in the pattern books at the end of the 19th century and several were republished. This is one of four that were compiled by Hypolyte Cocheris in 1872 and published as Patrons de Broiderie et de lingerie du XVI siecle_. The Smithsonian's copy is available on Archive.org. https://archive.org/details/patronsdebroderi00coch
